On Saturday, April 9th, Mark will portray the "spirit" of Deputy U.S. Marshall Henry Frank Griffin at the historic Oakwood Cemetery in Tyler. This event presents a few important persons from the past who helped shape Tyler and Smith County into what it is today. Griffin will be one of eight "spirits" along the walking tour.
Henry Griffin was reported to have been killed and buried in Galveston in October 1872. After several years of research it was discovered he was actually killed north of Tyler and his final resting place is in Oakwood Cemetery! His murder involved another notable Tyler family and the story is quite interesting.
We welcome anyone who is interested in local history to attend this annual spring event.
